Invisalign

For most of us (particularly those who can recall their teenage years being marred by a distinctly metallic smile) the thought of having braces sends a shiver down the spine. Invisalign, however, is just as effective as the traditional metal brace whilst being nearly invisible and also removable for when you are eating or brushing. The system is a set of plastic aligners that gradually straighten your teeth, bypassing much of the discomfort and inconvenience normally associated with orthodontic treatments.

Invisalign are comfortable to wear and socially acceptable, in fact as the name suggests they almost impossible to detect when worn. If one of our qualified dentists make a decision on whether the Invisalign treatment is an appropriate option for you (following a preliminary examination) a precision impression of your teeth is taken and a proposed schedule of treatment is sent to the company. Invisalign then uses its advanced 3D computer technology to produce sets of custom-made aligners that you wear in sequence for about 2 weeks before changing to the next one in the series.

This treatment consists of a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that you change regularly for the next set of aligners. Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move, little by little, until they have straightened to the final position prescribed by your dental practitioner. • Is the treatment quicker than conventional treatment?

• Are all patients suitable?

  Some patients may not be suitable for Invisalign® treatment; your orthodontist will advise you during your initial appointment

• Will I have to wear a retainer?

  Yes we usually advise patients to wear a retainer for about a year following completion of treatment. This helps to ensure the teeth do not drift back into their original position

• Will treatment hurt?

  Occasionally you may experience a slightly uncomfortable sensation when you change one set of aligners for the next in the series. This feeling disappears, usually after a day or so as your teeth become accustomed to the new aligner.
